What brought you to Tribe in the first place?
I moved to London from Bristol in May 2018. I had been looking around at gyms in West London and a friend mentioned to try CrossFit as I was looking to lose weight I’d gained over the previous couple of years. From a quick internet search the closest box to Ealing was Shepherds Bush so I had a free trial and signed up in June 2018.
What was your first impression? How has it changed?
My first impression of CrossFit was how attentive the coaches were, they would go out of their way to make me feel comfortable when I was new and gave advice on how to scale the WODs accordingly (which I definitely needed for the first six months). The intensity of the WODs took a while to get used to but now I can’t wait for WOD time everyday!
I remember the installation of wall ball targets. That was the biggest change to the WOD programming. Not doing so many slam balls and changing to wall balls. Also the introduction of running workouts and doing partner WOD Sunday’s.
What was your first achievement/bright spot?
My first memorable achievement was double unders. I love skipping! Antonio gave me some advice in a class and I’ve been practicing ever since and now can do 50+ unbroken.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on improving my gymnastics with the dream goal of handstand walking in the next few months (watch this space). I’m spending a lot of time upside down at the moment. I also need to learn how to do CrossFit silently without grunting so much…..
Favourite memory/proudest moment?
My favourite memory from the last year has to be the CrossFit Open which I did for the first time. I did my first strict hand stand push ups and bar muscle ups. But there has been loads more cool things to mention like the September in-house competition, the January benchmark girls, battle for brunch and the Tribe comp against CrossFit Hammersmith.
Plus, over the course of last year since November with the help of Mark and Newtrition LDN I’ve lost over 10kg which can’t go without a mention. It’s helped me WOD harder!
